The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) on December 05, 2024, notified regarding the prohibition on the use of streams or wells for disposal of polluting matter, etc. along the catchment/tributaries of Nonbah and Nondein Rivers, etc.
Following the Inspection Report, dated November 22, 2024, has prohibited the disposal of polluting matter into the Nonbah and Nondein River under the Solid Waste Management Rule, 2016, key provisions include: -
• Rule 4(2): Waste generators shall not dispose of solid waste improperly in streets, public spaces, drains, or water bodies.
• Rule 15(G): Waste generators are directed not to litter, burn, or bury waste in public spaces and to segregate waste at the source for collection by authorized personnel.
• Rule 15(K): Street sweepers shall not burn collected tree leaves but store them separately and hand them over to authorized waste collectors.
