The Labour Department, Govt. of Karnataka on January 02, 2025, notified regarding the criteria for recognition or renewal of laboratories for conducting medical examinations of workers employed in the factories.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It provides that the laboratory shall be NABL-accredited and registered under the KPME Act, with facilities to issue and maintain online reports accessible to workers, factories, and the Department.
• It provides that a qualified Pathologist with a KMC registration number shall be in charge, counter-signing all reports, and the laboratory must have provisions for medical emergencies during sample collection.
• It provides that laboratories shall maintain a proper cold chain for sample storage/transportation, use NABL-compliant reagents, obtain worker consent before sample collection, and display staff qualifications as required.
• It further provides that laboratories shall apply for recognition or renewal using Appendix A, pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 10,000 for registration and renewal (every two years), and comply with all outlined criteria.
