The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on January 15, 2025, issued the recommendations on the 'Regulatory Framework for Ground-based Broadcasters'.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that the framework for Ground-based Broadcasters (GBBs) aligns with the 2022 satellite broadcast guidelines, adapted for terrestrial mediums.
• It can deliver channels to Distribution Platform Operators (DPOs) using any terrestrial technology and may switch to or include satellite broadcasting with government approval.
• Their service area is national, and guidelines for Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels may be issued if needed.
