The Government of Rajasthan on January 03, 2025, issued a notification regarding a complete ban on the use of non-biodegradable manjha or thread made of nylon or any synthetic material and/or coated with a synthetic substance for kite flying.
The following has been stated: -
•A complete ban has been imposed on non-biodegradable manjha made of nylon, synthetic materials, or coated with synthetic substances for kite flying, as per the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) orders.
•Immediate action should be taken to enforce this ban on the manufacture, sale, storage, and use of such manjhas. Violators will face penalties under relevant laws, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Environment Protection Act.
•Public awareness campaigns should encourage the use of biodegradable threads. Special arrangements for rescuing and treating injured birds should be made, along with helplines for assistance.
