The Government of Kerala on January 13, 2025, issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Sanitary Waste Management.
The following has been stated: -
•This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines rules and best practices for managing sanitary waste effectively in the State. It aims to reduce risks associated with waste processing and disposal.
•Following the SOP ensures compliance with Central Pollution Control Board requirements for environmentally friendly waste management. The SOP promotes systematic and scientific sanitary waste management.
•Sanitary waste includes used diapers, sanitary towels, tampons, condoms, and similar items. Authorized collection agencies are responsible for waste collection, while service providers handle transportation, processing, and disposal.
•Sanitary products are categorized into non-compostable, compostable, and reusable types. Compostable products can be processed in specific facilities, while reusable products include items like menstrual cups and cloth products.
