Industry Specific ComplianceThe National Medical Commission (NMC) on January 17, 2025, issued the Draft Teachers Eligibility Qualifications in Medical Institutions Regulations, 2024.

The following has been stated: -

•The objective of these regulations is Faculty appointments and promotions in medical institutions under the National Medical Commission must adhere to the prescribed minimum qualifications and experience. 

•They ensure a consistent standard of teaching for both graduate and postgraduate medical education. These regulations aim to maintain the quality of education in medical institutions. Compliance with these standards is essential for effective teaching and training.

•Faculty appointments in medical institutions must follow qualifications outlined in specific tables of the regulations. The maximum age for appointments and extensions is 70 years. 

•Seniority-cum-merit basis governs appointments for roles like Dean, Director, Principal, and Medical Superintendent, with specific teaching experience required. 

•The Dean/Director/Principal should have at least ten years of teaching experience, including five years as a Professor. DNB qualifications in broad and super specialties are considered equivalent to MD/MS and DM/M.Ch., respectively, with additional senior residency required for certain cases.

•The Objections and suggestions can be submitted within seven (07) days from January 17, 2025.
