The Government of Meghalaya on January 16, 2025, issued a notification regarding Conditions for Employing Women in Night Shifts in the Factories.
The following has been stated: -
•The State Government of Meghalaya has outlined conditions for factories employing women during night shifts (7 PM to 6 AM) to ensure their safety and security. These include the prevention of sexual harassment, provision of CCTV, transportation with security, and female supervisors for night shifts.
•Factories must establish an Internal Committee for sexual harassment, provide medical facilities, and display emergency contacts. Regular workshops and grievance meetings are also required, along with compliance with the Factories Act and other labor laws.
•The Occupier must submit annual reports and incident reports per the Sexual Harassment Act.
•All the above conditions shall apply to the Management/Occupier of the Registered Factories where women workers work in the factories.
•The Central or State Government in this regard may add any other condition from time to time.
•State Government, by notification, may add or delete any of the above conditions.
