Industry Specific ComplianceThe Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on January 23, 2025, issued a notification regarding enhanced Food Safety Measures and Improved Import Clearance Processes in Tamil Nadu.

The following has been stated: -

•FSSAI emphasized the need for increased inspections of high-risk food establishments and periodic reviews of food testing labs in Tamil Nadu. The importance of Healthy and Hygienic Food Streets and the urge for faster completion has also been discussed. 

•FSSAI highlighted the launch of the Food Import Rejection Alert (FIRA) portal, stressing the importance of regular updates on rejected food consignments. 

•FIRA is a digital platform that provides timely updates on food import rejections, helping exporters, importers, and stakeholders understand rejection reasons and regulatory compliance. It serves as a key resource for food industry stakeholders.

•Additionally the need for capacity building of Customs officials to streamline food import clearance.
