The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, (MPCB) on January 22, 2024, issued a notification regarding the Collection of effluent samples of the industries, that are discharging effluent having COD of more than the permissible, limit into CETP inlet.
During the performance audit (2017-2022), issues were raised regarding the lack of penalty enforcement on defaulting industries in CETP Thane Belapur and MIDC Waluj areas. Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in Maharashtra collect and analyze industrial effluent samples, identifying member industries exceeding permissible limits. These records are shared with MPCB for action. However, delays in data submission by some CETPs have been noted.
To address this, all CETPs must submit information on defaulting industries to respective RO/SRO offices by the first week of every month. RO/SROs are directed to collect effluent samples from defaulting industries for analysis, initiate legal actions based on MPCB laboratory reports, and update CETPs on actions taken. CETP management is also authorized to impose penal charges on defaulting industries as per CPCB's October 2001 guidelines. Strict compliance with this circular is mandatory.
