The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) on January 22, 2025, issued a circular regarding the Collection of effluent samples of the industries which are discharging effluent having COD of more than permissible limit into CETP inlet.
In Maharashtra, several Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) are responsible for monitoring the effluent discharge from their member industries. These CETPs collect effluent samples from the industries, analyze them in their own laboratories, and identify industries that exceed permissible discharge limits. The CETPs maintain records of these defaulting industries and are supposed to communicate this data regularly to the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) for further action. However, it has been observed that some CETPs are not consistently sharing this data with the respective Regional Offices (RO) and Sub-Regional Offices (SRO) of the MPCB in a timely manner.
In view of above, all CETPs shall regularly submit their information about defaulting industries to respective RO & SRO in time on a regular basis in the first week of every month.
It is directed to all RO/SRO to collect the effluent samples of those industries which are communicated by CETPs as defaulting industries ie which are discharging effluent having COD of more than the permissible limit into CETP inlet as per the guidelines issued by CPCB in this regard. After the receipt of report from MPCB laboratory, further necessary legal action shall be initiated against defaulting industries and action taken against these industries shall be communicated to CETP.
