The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on January 14, 2025, issued directions regarding compliance with various provisions under Schedule-ll of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, i.e., Guidelines on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
The following has been stated: -
•The Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has issued directions under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, regarding compliance with the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, focusing on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
•Producers, importers, brand owners, and plastic waste processors must register on the centralized portal and ensure compliance with audit findings.
•Specific non-compliances, such as discrepancies in plant machinery, GST e-invoice uploads, and processing capacity, will incur proportionate Environmental Compensation (EC).
•A waiver for deficits up to 20% in certain areas may apply. Entities are required to submit action reports within 15 days, detailing corrective actions taken.
