Industry Specific ComplianceThe Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on January 22, 2025, issued a circular regarding the proposal for initiatives towards seafarers' financial and mental well-being by collection of requisite data.

The following has been stated: -

•The Directorate is focusing on improving the financial and mental well-being of Indian seafarers, especially to increase their global representation from 12% to 20% by 2030. 

•To address challenges like health issues, insurance, and pension, the Directorate is sending emails to seafarers requesting details about themselves and their families. Seafarers are encouraged to voluntarily fill out a Google form to help develop tailored insurance solutions. 

•The data submitted will be processed in compliance with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023. This initiative aims to provide customized support for seafarers and their families.
