The revised timeline for implementing amendments to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, ensuring a smooth transition for businesses. Under the new framework, any amendments related to labelling provisions will come into effect on either January 1st or July 1st of a given year, with a mandatory transition period of at least 180 days from the date of notification. This approach provides businesses with sufficient time to adapt while maintaining transparency and accuracy in product information, thereby empowering consumers to make informed purchasing decisions. The decision reflects the government’s commitment to consumer welfare, ease of doing business, and reducing compliance burdens. In exceptional cases, implementation timelines may be adjusted on a case-by-case basis to ensure practical solutions without compromising public interest.
