The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on January 20, 2025, notified regarding the deduction of the professional tax amount from the employee.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that employers shall deduct the Profession Tax from employees’ salaries for the period until November 2024, with remittance due by March 31, 2025. This ensures that any arrears, if applicable, shall be paid without delay.
• It provides the revised Profession Tax slab rates impose no tax on half-yearly incomes up to Rs. 21,000, while incomes above this threshold are taxed progressively from Rs. 180 to Rs. 1,250 based on income brackets.
