Industry Specific ComplianceThe National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on January 28, 2025, issued an addendum to Circular 004 – Changes to the rule for declining transactions from tags under the exception.

The following has been stated: -

•An addendum to Circular 004, dated October 16, 2024, modifies the rule for declining transactions from tags under the exception. 

•Transactions will be declined with reason code 176 if the tag is inactive for more than 60 minutes before or up to 10 minutes after the reader read time. This change will take effect from February 17, 2025. 

•Member banks must update their systems and inform plaza operators and system integrators.
