The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) on January 23, 2025, issued the Draft Karnataka Electricity Distribution Code (KEDC), 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It aims to ensure a 24x7 reliable, quality, and economical power supply with a smart, resilient, and environmentally sustainable system, optimizing existing assets with minimal losses, and minimizing new network additions while meeting regulatory standards.
• It shall apply to all the Distribution Licensees including deemed licensees, and open-access consumers connected to the distribution system.
• It states that the distribution licensee shall be responsible for the implementation of the Distribution code.
• It provides the functions of the Distribution Code Review Panel (DCRP).
• It states that the KERC (Karnataka Electricity Distribution Code) Regulations, 2015, and all subsequent amendments thereof shall stand repealed from the date of commencement of this Regulation.
• The Stakeholders shall send their comments or suggestions on the draft code, on or before February 21, 2025, to “the Secretary, KERC, # 16C-1, Millers Tank Bed Area, Vasanth Nagar, Bengaluru 560 052’.
