Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W) on February 04, 2025, issued a notification regarding exemption for Indian Fishing Boats under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.

The following has been stated: - 

•The Central Government has exempted Indian fishing boats less than 24 meters in length from complying with certain provisions of the Merchant Shipping (Indian Fishing Boats Inspection) Rules, 1988. 

•However, these boats must still adhere to the equipment requirements outlined in the Merchant Shipping (Fire Appliances) Rules, 1990, the Prevention of Collisions at Sea Regulations, 1975, the Life-Saving Appliances Rules, 1991, and the Distress and Safety Radio Communication Rules, 1995.
