The Ministry of Chemical and Fertilisers (MoC&F) on February 04, 2025, notified regarding the regulatory framework for pricing of drugs laid down by the National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Policy, 2012.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Policy, 2012 regulates drug prices based on essentiality, applies only to formulations (not bulk drugs or intermediates), and follows market-based pricing instead of cost-based pricing under the 1995 Drugs (Prices Control) Order.
• It mentions that the CDSCO has signed agreements or memorandum of understanding on regulatory cooperation with other international agencies, including with such agencies in Afghanistan, Argentina, Brazil, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Guyana, Japan, Netherlands, Russian Federation, Suriname, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States of America and the Drug Regulatory Authority of BRICS.
