The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) on February 07, 2025, issued Draft Environment (Protection) Amendment Rules, 2025 further to amend the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986.
The following has been stated: -
•In Schedule - I, after serial number 5A, the following ‘Note’ shall be inserted,–
Note: The Ministry in consultation with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) may, on a case-to-case basis, through an order, grant exemption to thermal power plants from the installation of cooling towers.
Any person interested in making any objections or suggestions can do so within 60 days from February 07, 2025.
