The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) on February 10, 2025, issued the Draft Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2025, to further amend the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.
The following has been stated namely: -
• In rule 2, in clause (h), a new proviso shall be inserted, namely: - “Provided that for packages containing medical devices, the provisions of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017 shall apply to make declarations at any place.”
• In rule 7, in sub-rule (2) and sub-rule (3), a new proviso shall be inserted, namely: - “Provided that for packages containing medical devices, the provisions of the Medical Devices Rules, 2017 shall apply for the height and width of any numeral and letter to make declarations.”
• In rule 33, in sub-rule (1), a new proviso shall be inserted: - “Provided that for packages containing medical devices, the relaxation is only required for making correct declarations, which are made in compliance of these rules.”
