The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) February 14, 2025, issued the Furniture (Quality Control) Order, 2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Goods or articles shall conform to the Indian Standard specified and shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau as per Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
• The Bureau shall be the certifying and enforcing authority
• Any person who contravenes the provisions of this order shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016
• The Goods is states as “Furniture” and includes: -
o Work chairs
o General purpose chairs and stools
o Tables and desks
o Storage units
o Beds
o Bunk beds
This shall come into force on the expiry of twelve months from February 14, 2025.
