The Directorate of Shipping (DGS) on February 12, 2025, notified regarding the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) Systems on Indian-Flagged Vessels and Foreign Flag Vessels visiting Indian Ports.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It aims to enhance onboard safety and security by providing continuous monitoring and recording of activities, thereby aiding in incident investigations and improving response efficiency during Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
• It outlines specific guidelines for the implementation, maintenance, and operational requirements of these CCTV systems to ensure their effectiveness in safeguarding maritime operations.
• It states that CCTV systems shall be installed in critical areas such as the bridge, engine room, cargo handling areas, and accommodation spaces to ensure comprehensive surveillance.
• It states that shipowners and operators shall ensure that the CCTV systems meet technical specifications, are maintained regularly and that recorded data is securely stored for a prescribed duration.
