The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) on February 19, 2025, issued Clarification on the New FASTag Rule.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has clarified that the NPCI Circular (No. NPCI/2024-25/NETC/004A, dated January 28, 2025) will not affect FASTag customer experience. The Circular is designed to help resolve disputes between Acquirer and Issuer Banks regarding FASTag status when vehicles pass Toll Plazas, ensuring timely transactions and preventing delays.
National Highway Toll Plazas use the ICD 2.5 protocol, allowing real-time tag status updates. FASTag customers can recharge at any time before crossing a Toll Plaza. Some State Highway Toll Plazas still use the older ICD 2.4 protocol, but they will be upgraded soon.
Customers are encouraged to link their FASTag wallet to UPI or bank accounts with auto-recharge settings to avoid manual recharges, and can continue recharging via various payment methods such as UPI and net banking.
