The Home Department, Tamil Nadu on February 15, 2025, issued the Draft Amendment to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Rule 3 which states “General rules under the Licensing of Drivers of Motor Vehicles” the following has been inserted namely: -
“(ra) “Pink auto” means an autorikshaw owned and driven by women drivers under Pink Auto Scheme of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department”
• Rule 37 which states “Period of validity” in clause (iv) the following proviso has been added namely: -
“Provided that the women driving pink auto shall be in pink colour uniform”
• Rule 208 which states “Permit — transfer of” the following proviso has been added namely: -
“Provided that the pink autos covered by contract carriage permit shall not be transferred for, at least five years from the date of issue of permit”
Objection or suggestion should be addressed in duplicate to the Additional Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department within 15 days.
