The Government of Kerala on February 21, 2025, issued the notification regarding the free Auto rides if meter doesn’t work.
The following has been stated namely: -
• If the fare meter is not used or is not working during the journey in autorickshaws, the journey will be considered free.
• Autorickshaws in the state must have a sticker printed in Malayalam and English that says ''If the fare meter is not engaged or not working, your journey is free'' in a way that is visible to passengers or it should be written in white on a dark background in large size.
• If the sticker is not affixed, the autorickshaws will be disqualified in the fitness certificate test. If the disqualified autorickshaws operate as taxi services, a fine will be levied.
The directive will come into effect from March 01, 2025
