Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPS&W) on February 25, 2025, notified regarding the Draft Inland Vessels (Survey and Certification) (First Amendment) Rules, 2025, to further amend Inland Vessels (Survey and Certification) Rules, 2022.

The following has been stated namely: -

• After clause (d) of sub-rule (1) of rule 2, an explanation shall be inserted, namely:- “Explanation. - For this sub-rule, the Gross Tonnage of vessels above 24 meters shall be calculated according to the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships, 1969 whereas the Gross Tonnage of vessels less than 24 meters shall be calculated according to Rule 2 of the Merchant Shipping (Tonnage Measurement of Ships) Rules, 1991”.

• In sub-rule (1) of rule 8, clause (b), the words “Inland Vessel Certificate of Survey”, shall be substituted with the words “certificate of the survey”.

• Objections or suggestions, if any, to these draft rules may be sent to the Director (IWT), Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Room No. 536, Transport Bhawan, 1-Parliament Street, New Delhi-110001, or by email at [email protected] and [email protected] and on or before March 27, 2025.
