The Transport Department, Govt. of Sikkim on October 28, 2024, issued the Sikkim Motor Vehicles Rules, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that rule 38 C of the Sikkim Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991, shall be omitted.
• Rule 6B shall be substituted with "6B Authorization to drive Luxury Tourist Vehicles, No person shall drive a Luxury Tourist Vehicle unless he obtains authorization from any Licencing Authority in Sikkim to drive such vehicles duly making an application and on payment of Rs. 500/-only. The authorization to drive luxury tourist vehicles shall be granted on the submission of Sikkim Subject Certificate (SSC), Certificate of Identification (Col), Residential Certificate or Voter Identity Card issued by Election Department, Government of Sikkim."
• In rule 93, sub-rule (7), the existing clause (b), shall be substituted with "(b) Any Construction Equipment vehicles, Heavy Machineries, and Earth movers brought from outside (including those which do not require registration) shall be governed by Notification No. GOS/TD/SNT/Secy/2024-25/49 dated 27.06.2024. The vehicle shall obtain an NOC/Enlistment Certificate from SNT Division, Transport Department, Government of Sikkim, to enter into Sikkim".
