The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (MCAFPD) on February 25, 2025, clarified that standalone distilleries can produce ethanol only from sugarcane juice/syrup purchased from sugar mills using the vacuum pan process. They are not permitted to procure sugarcane juice/syrup from jaggery units, as these units are not covered under the Sugarcane (Control) Order, 1966. Additionally, standalone distilleries must adhere to the minimum 15 Km distance requirement from existing sugar mills, as per the amended Sugarcane (Control) Order, 1966.
