The Ministry of Communications (MoC) on February 27, 2025, issued the Draft Telecommunications (Radio Equipment Possession Authorisation) Rules, 2025.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Objections or suggestions, if any, may be addressed to the Joint Secretary (Telecom), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, Sanchar Bhawan, 20, Ashoka Road, New Delhi- 110001 and on before March 29, 2025.
• It states that the new rules replace the Indian Wireless Telegraphy (Possession) Rules, 1965, but do not affect actions taken or authorizations granted before their implementation.
• It states that no person shall possess radio equipment except under a Radio Equipment Possession Authorisation granted under rule 6, unless exempted from the requirement of such Radio Equipment Possession Authorisation under rule 4.
