The Ministry of Coal (MoC) on February 28, 2025, issued a notification regarding the initiatives to promote Rail-Sea-Rail (RSR).
The following has been stated namely: -
• This initiative is promoting the Rail-Sea-Rail (RSR) system to improve coal transportation, reducing congestion on rail routes and lowering carbon emissions.
• Coal movement via RSR has increased significantly, from 28 MT in FY22 to 54 MT in FY24.
• In February 2025, Indian Railways introduced a telescopic freight rate benefit, lowering costs for coal movement.
• This policy change is expected to further boost RSR coal transport and coastal shipping.
