The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on March 03, 2025, issued an addendum to circular NPCI/UPI/OC-115/2021-22 on the Numeric UPI ID resolution.
The following has been stated: -
•The addendum to NPCI/UPI/OC-115/2021-22 outlines additional guidelines for UPI Number usage. Banks and PSP apps must update their databases weekly using the Mobile Number Revocation List/Digital Intelligence Platform to reduce errors from churned numbers.
•UPI apps must obtain explicit user consent for seeding or porting UPI numbers, with clear communication and opt-in options.
•If NPCI mapper response times are delayed, PSP apps can resolve numbers locally and report monthly to NPCI. Compliance is required by March 31, 2025.
