The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) on March 04, 2025, issued an addendum to M.S. Notice 16 of 2016, dated December 08, 2016, regarding the implementation of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 - inspection and certificate of the Maritime Labour Conditions of Indian Flagged ships.
The following has been stated namely: -
•It has updated maritime labor regulations in line with amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006, adopted by the ILO in 2022.
• These amendments, effective globally from December 23, 2024, aim to strengthen seafarers' rights and well-being.
• It has issued directives for compliance, requiring shipowners and recruitment agencies to update Safety Management Systems (SMS), Crewing Manuals, and Declarations of Maritime Labour Compliance (DMLC).
