The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MoHI) on March 10, 2025, issued a notification regarding Product Specific Guidelines for Low Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear: Control circuit devices and switching elements – Electromechanical control circuit devices with mechanical latching function conforming to IS/IEC 60947-5-5 : 2016 under Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, and subsequent amendments made from time to time.
The following has been stated: -
•The guidelines outline the process for obtaining a license or changing the scope of license for electromechanical control circuit devices with mechanical latching functions under IS/IEC 60947-5-5: 2016, as per the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Order, 2020.
•Manufacturers must submit technical files and test reports to the Bureau of Indian Standards, with product series grouped based on features. Type tests, including electrical and emergency stop device tests, must follow the specified clauses of the standard.
•Accessories and sub-assemblies are tested with the main equipment, and certain electrical requirements are covered by separate guidelines.
