The Government of Manipur on February 13, 2025, issued the Manipur Vehicle Scrapping Policy, 2024.
The following has been stated namely: -
• The policy aims to phase out old vehicles for road safety and a cleaner environment, offer tax incentives, establish testing and scrapping facilities, create jobs, impose higher renewal fees, and promote a circular economy.
• The policy applies to all end-of-life vehicles, Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs), Automated Testing Stations (ATS), registering authorities, and departments responsible for issuing NOCs for RVSFs.
• It states that Vehicles eligible for scrapping include those with expired registration or fitness certificates, government vehicles over 15 years old, damaged or obsolete vehicles, auctioned or impounded vehicles, manufacturing rejects, and any vehicle voluntarily offered for scrapping.
• This policy shall be effective for 5 years.
• This shall come into force from March 05, 2025.
