The Ministry of Communications (MoC) on March 12, 2025, notified regarding the Checking/controlling of unwarranted calls and SMS.
It states that TRAI regulates Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC) under the TCCCPR-2018 regulations, which were amended on February 12, 2025. The key provisions include:
• Allowing telecom subscribers to block or filter commercial messages and report violations via app, SMS (1909), or call.
• Blacklisting violators, including Registered Entities and Telemarketers.
• Penalizing Unregistered Telemarketers (UTMs) through warnings, restrictions, or disconnections.
• Imposing Financial Disincentives (FDs) on telecom providers failing to curb UCC.
