The Labour Department, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh on March 07, 2025, issued the Guidelines for ensuring effective assessment and recovery of Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that the Local bodies are responsible for collecting 1% cess on construction costs under Rule 4(4) of the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996, and transferring it to the Madhya Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, Bhopal.
• It states that the urban bodies shall ensure timely transfer of collected cess, verify cess assessments, rectify under-assessed cases, deposit the correct amount, and submit a compliance report by March 25, 2025 as per Appendix-'A'.
