The Ministry of Coal (MoC), on March 17, 2025, notified regarding the Carbon Emissions in Mining Operations.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that it is promoting sustainable coal mining through initiatives like bio-reclamation, energy efficiency measures, First Mile Connectivity, clean coal technologies, and the Green Credit Programme to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact.
• It states that sustainable coal production is promoted through compliance with environmental laws, the use of advanced mining technologies, energy efficiency, reclamation, and repurposing of mined areas, though there is currently no specific directive for mining companies to review their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regarding carbon emissions.
