The Government of Tamil Nadu on March 06, 2025, issued amendments to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The following has been stated-
•In rule 3, after clause (r), the following clause shall be inserted, namely:- “(ra) “Pink auto” means an auto rickshaw owned and driven by women drivers under Pink Auto Scheme of Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department;”
•In rule 37, in clause (iv), the following proviso shall be added, namely:- “Provided that the women driving pink auto shall be in pink colour uniform;”
•After rule 310, the following rule shall be inserted, namely:- “310-A. – The pink auto shall be fitted with Global Positioning System / Vehicle Location Tracking Device and connected to the police helpline to ensure rapid response during emergencies.”
•After rule 364-A, the following rule shall be inserted, namely:- “364-B. Painting of Pink auto.- Every Pink auto covered by contract carriage permit shall be painted fully in “Pink Colour.”
