The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, (MoHFW) March 12, 2025, issued a notification regarding the Prohibition of Certain Drugs for Food-Producing Animals.
The Central Government, under Section 26A of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, has banned the import, manufacture, sale, and distribution of Chloramphenicol and Nitrofurans for use in food-producing animals. This decision, made after consulting the Drugs Technical Advisory Board, is aimed at protecting public health by prohibiting harmful drugs where safer alternatives are available.
