The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers (MoC&F) on March 18, 2025, notified regarding the Average price reduction due to fixation or refixation of prices under the National List of Essential Medicines, 2022.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that the NPPA has fixed ceiling prices for 928 scheduled formulations and retail prices for over 3,200 new drugs under the DPCO, 2013, ensuring price regulation and an average 17% reduction, saving patients approximately ₹3,788 crores annually.
• It states that the government ensures access to affordable medicines through PMBJP (offering medicines at 50-80% lower rates via Jan Aushadhi Kendras), AMRIT (providing up to 50% discounts on essential drugs and implants), and the Free Drugs Service Initiative (supporting states with essential medicines at various healthcare levels), with a target to expand the PMBJP product basket to 2,100 medicines and 310 surgical by March 31, 2025.
