Industry Specific ComplianceThe Department of Excise, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh on March 03, 2025, issued the Uttar Pradesh Excise (Settlement of Licenses for Retail Sale of Country Liquor) (Eighteenth Amendment) Rules, 2025, to further amend the Uttar Pradesh Excise (Settlement of Licenses for Retail Sale of Country Liquor) Rules, 2002.

This shall come into force from March 03, 2025.

The following has been stated namely: -

• Rule 2(1)(i) which states the definition of "Earnest Money" shall be deleted.

• Rule 2(m) which states the definition of "Hierarchy” shall be substituted, which means the descending order of the basic license fee of shops purported to be the basis for shop allotment through the process of computer-based randomization in e-lottery for selection of licensee.

• Rule 10 - "Selection of Licensee" shall be substituted. It states that the selection of a shop licensee is done through E-Lottery, E-Renewal, or E-Tender as prescribed by the State Government, with eligibility determined by the District Excise Officer, and in case of E-Lottery, the selection is made via a computer-based randomization process.
