The Government of Maharashtra on March 20, 2025, issued a notification regarding the implementation of Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023 in all urban local bodies in the state.
The following has been stated: -
•The Central Government has framed the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023 to control the stray dog population, prevent rabies, and avoid cruelty. These rules include guidelines for the capture, vaccination, castration, and release of stray dogs.
•The Maharashtra government has decided to implement these provisions in all municipal corporations, following the directives of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005.
