The Government of Maharashtra on March 19, 2025, issued the Maharashtra Mathadi, Hamal and Other Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to further amend the Maharashtra Mathadi, Hamal and Other Manual Workers (Regulation of Employment and Welfare) Act, 1969.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that throughout the principal act, the words "Manual Workers", wherever they occur, the words "Manual Workers" shall be substituted.
• In section 4 (1), in the second proviso, in clause (b), the word "workers", at both the places where it occurs, the words "unprotected workers" shall be substituted.
• In section 14, after sub-section (1), a new sub-section shall be inserted, namely: - "(1A) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act, if the Advisory Committee is not functional for any reason, then the State Government may issue a notification or decide for implementation of the provisions of this Act without advice or consultation of the Advisory Committee."
• In section 16, in the Explanation, the word "fourteen" the word "eighteen" shall be substituted.
