The Government of Kerala on March 10, 2025, issued a circular regarding amendment in the Kerala Shops & Commercial Establishment Act, 1960.
The following has been stated namely: -
• It states that it shall ensure security personnel in shops and commercial establishments receive proper accommodation, safety equipment, and basic facilities to prevent long working hours.
• After section 21 A, a new section shall be inserted namely:- "Section 21B. Seating facilities in every shop and establishment suitable arrangements for sitting shall be provided for all workers to avoid 'on their toes' situation throughout duty time, so that they may take advantage of any opportunity to sit which may occur in the course of their work".
• A new rule 6(4)(a) inserted which states that the employer shall provide to the employee's protective equipment and clothing in conformity with the quality prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards Where there is likelihood of bodily injury or exposure to physical or chemical hazards.
