The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MoHI) on March 21, 2025, issued a notification regarding Wheelchair-Accessible Private Vehicles Policy.
The following has been stated: -
•From January 2020 to March 2025, 96,265 adapted vehicles were registered in India. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways allows vehicle alterations under Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and related rules.
•The Ministry of Heavy Industries issues certificates for persons with 40% or greater orthopedic disability, enabling them to purchase cars at a concessional GST rate. These vehicles are registered as "Adapted Vehicles."
