The Government of Tamil Nadu on March 19, 2025, issued the Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Amendment) Act, 2025, to further amend the Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act, 1994.
The following has been stated namely: -
• Section 261-A has been substituted to state “Appointment of Special Officers”
“Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act or any other law for the time being in force, the Government may, by notification, appoint Special Officers to exercise the powers and perform the functions of the Village Panchayats, Panchayat Union Committees or District Panchayats, as the case may be, after the commencement of the Tamil Nadu Panchayats (Amendment) Act, 2025 or up to the 5th day of July, 2025, whichever is earlier, after the regular elections to the Panchayats other than the Panchayats in the districts of Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Vellore, Iranipet, Tirupattur, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi, as the case may be, up to the date of the first meeting of the said Village Panchayats, Panchayat Union Committees or District Panchayats, as the case may be.".
This has come into force on January 06, 2025.
