The Government of Maharashtra on March 21, 2025 issued Seeds (Maharashtra Amendment) Bill, 2025 to further amend the Seeds Act, 1966.
The following has been stated namely: -
• This shall be applicable to Maharashtra
• Section 19 which states “Penalty” the following has been amended namely: -
o “After the words "if any person", the words "or company or co-operative society" shall be inserted”
o In sub-section (a), for the words "which may extend to five hundred rupees", the words "with fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees and with imprisonment for three months" shall be inserted.
• In section 20 which states “Forfeiture of Property” the following has been stated namely: -
“Instead of the text "seeds in respect of which the violation has occurred", the text "the entire stock of seeds in their possession including the seeds in respect of which the violation has occurred" shall be inserted”
The Bill shall come into force on such date as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.
