Industry Specific ComplianceThe Ministry of Coal (MoC) on March 26, 2025, notified regarding the Energy Security by Domestic Coal Reserves.

The following has been stated namely: -

• India, with 389.42 BT of coal and 47.29 BT of lignite reserves (as of April 2024), meets 55% of its energy needs through domestic coal, achieving a record 997.826 MT production in 2023-24 (11.71% growth from 2022-23) and 929.15 MT (provisional) in 2024-25 (5.45% growth till February), aided by mass production technologies, mechanized mining, and government focus on increasing output.

• The Government has taken multiple steps to boost coal production for energy security, including regular ministry reviews, MMDR Act amendments allowing captive mines to sell 50% output, a Single Window Clearance Portal, a Project Monitoring Unit, commercial mining auctions with revenue-sharing incentives, relaxed bidding terms, 100% FDI via the automatic route, and a transparent National Coal Index-based revenue model.
