Commercial ComplianceThe Government of Uttar Pradesh on April 21, 2025, issued a notification regarding revised Motor Vehicle Tax Rates.

The following has been stated: - 

•The Uttar Pradesh government has revised one-time and annual motor vehicle tax rates under the UP Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1997.

•One-time tax on new non-transport vehicles ranges from 7% to 11% based on vehicle type and cost, with trailers taxed at 2%. Registered vehicles receive a 5% tax exemption per year of use (up to 75%). Electric Vehicles (EVs), excluding e-rickshaws, enjoy 100% tax exemption if registered between October 14, 2022, and October 13, 2027.

•EVs include BEVs, HEVs, PHEVs, and FCEVs using batteries, ultra-capacitors, or fuel cells.

•Annual tax on old non-transport vehicles ranges from ₹200 to ₹3,000 based on vehicle type and weight.
