The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) on June 18, 2025, granting a one-time relaxation for existing satellite television channel permission holders to meet the minimum net worth requirements outlined in the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking and Downlinking of Satellite Television Channels in India, 2022.
Recognizing the difficulties faced by broadcasters in achieving the increased net worth in a short period, and following previous partial relaxations, the Ministry has set a new phased compliance schedule for existing permission holders:
40% of the minimum net worth required by September 30, 2025.
65% by March 31, 2026.
100% by December 31, 2026.
This special dispensation applies only to those entities operating under prior policy guidelines and is subject to fulfilling other terms and conditions, including no change in beneficial ownership. Failure to meet the 100% net worth requirement by December 31, 2026, will result in the cancellation of permission. New applicants under the 2022 guidelines must continue to comply with the prescribed net worth requirements from the outset.
